В любом образе-идеале содержится определенная мера в соотношении между идеалом и реальностью, то есть в соотношении между идеалом как определенном «отлете» от его существующей ситуации, как способность охватить будущее, заглянуть вперед, и эмпирически данной социальной действительности как одном из этапов до будущего, которая может стать фактором целенаправленности в деятельности. Нарушение этой меры приводит в одном случае к объективизму, который оказывается в искусственном сокращении исторической дистанции между идеалом и действительностью, к такой формы «заземление» идеалов, которая фактически будет означать отказ от них, а в другом - к абстрактным идеалам, содержание которых настолько оторвано от исторической действительности, что оно становится непонятным. Абсолютизация идеала как отрыв его от реальных условий бытия, от конкретных условий жизни, непонимание его относительности, противоречивости отношений этого идеала с реальностью может привести к так называемому «крах идеала», что будет сопровождаться такими негативными явлениями как нигилизм и скептицизм личности. И. Кон в работе «социология личности» говорит о подростке, который легко идеализирует окружающих людей и отношения, но быстро в них разочаровывается как только обнаруживает их неполную соответствие. С этим связан подростковый негативизм как специфическая форма их самоутверждения. Абстрактные идеалы, оторванные от повседневности, осуществляют негативную роль в воспитательной деятельности. Определение в образе-идеале меры сторон противоречия «идеал-действительность», которая обеспечила бы его действующую силу, а также факторов, которые обеспечивают эту меру в разные исторические периоды, является важной как теоретической, так и практической проблемой.

Violation of this measure leads in one case to objectivism, which turns out to be an artificial reduction of the historical distance between the ideal and reality, to such a form of "grounding" of ideals, which will actually mean abandoning them, and in the other - to abstract ideals, the content of which is so divorced from historical reality that it becomes incomprehensible. The absolutization of the ideal as its separation from the real conditions of being, from the specific conditions of life, misunderstanding of its relativity, the inconsistency of the relationship of this ideal with reality can lead to the so-called "collapse of the ideal", which will be accompanied by such negative phenomena as nihilism and skepticism of personality. I. Kohn in the work "sociology of personality" speaks about a teenager who he easily idealizes the people around him and relationships, but quickly becomes disillusioned with them as soon as he discovers their incomplete correspondence. This is connected with adolescent nagativism as a specific form of their self-affirmation. So, abstract ideals, detached from everyday life, play a negative role in educational activities. The definition in the image-ideal of the measure of the sides of the contradiction "ideal-reality", which would ensure its effective force, as well as the factors that provide this measure in different historical periods, is an important both theoretical and practical problem.
