Abstract

The article examines the problem of applying the concept of actor psychotypes, developed by K. Stanislavsky’s associate N. V. Demidov, in contemporary theatrical pedagogy at the university level. The author focuses on an analysis of the four types of actors identified by Demidov (the imitator, the emotional type, the affective type, and the rationalist) through the lens of the dialectic of form and content in actor creativity. The central task is to reveal the relationship between students’ psychophysical characteristics and their tendency toward a formal or content-driven approach to role creation, as well as to assess the relevance of this typology for optimizing the educational process. The methodological foundation of the study consists of an analysis of the theoretical heritage of N. V. Demidov and K. S. Stanislavsky, alongside the philosophical works of G. W. F. Hegel and M. M. Bakhtin on the correlation of form and content. The author supplements the theoretical analysis with personal pedagogical experience in implementing Demidov’s training exercises and etudes, allowing for an assessment of the practical applicability of the classification under real conditions of group instruction. The results of the study confirm the existence of stable differences in actors’ creative strategies determined by their psychotype. Imitators and rationalists demonstrate a tendency toward a formal, intellectual construction of the role through external techniques and calculation, often at the expense of the process of authentic emotional engagement. In contrast, the emotional and affective types are oriented toward deep inner content, spontaneity, and truthful feeling, but may experience difficulties in controlling form and maintaining technical discipline. Special emphasis is placed on the high value of affectivity as a quality that can be developed through Demidov’s methods and that contributes to the organic unity of performance. At the same time, the author underscores the conditional nature of the typology, noting the prevalence of mixed psychotypes among contemporary students and

the need for an individualized approach. In conclusion, the study argues for the advisability of taking basic psychotypical characteristics of students into account at the initial stage of training to identify their strengths (for example, affectivity or emotional responsiveness) and subsequently foster the harmonious development of lacking skills (technique, self-control, sense of form). It is emphasized that despite the commercialization of education and the demand for multi-genre versatility, early psychotype diagnostics help avoid career-orientation errors, reduce attrition, and more effectively integrate methods of internal psychotechnology (Demidov, Chekhov) into the preparation of the “synthetic” actor capable of combining emotional depth with professional mastery.
