Improving the process of teaching students decorative painting in specialized universities in China

Abstract

The article is devoted to improving the process of teaching students decorative painting in specialized universities in China. This process is attracting increasing attention due to its importance for preserving traditional art forms and adapting to modern artistic practices. Decorative painting, which includes techniques rooted in historical Chinese art, plays a crucial role in the cultural identity and artistic heritage of the nation. Significant educational challenges arise due to the need for a balance between traditional pedagogical methods and innovative approaches that enhance student engagement and creativity in a rapidly changing artistic landscape. The paper defines the importance of traditional decorative painting as part of the cultural heritage and the current state of art education in China in the country. The author analyzes the integration of traditional teaching methods with modern artistic approaches, which contributes to the preservation and development of decorative art. Based on a pedagogical experiment conducted at Jiangsu Pedagogical University, a decorative painting course has been tested according to an improved learning structure that includes historical context, artistic features, materials and tools, modern methods and interdisciplinary connections. The results of the experiment showed an increase in the level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of students, which indicates the effectiveness of the proposed recommendations.
